The National Coalition for Hospice and Palliative Care condemns the senseless killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis law enforcement and others who have lost their lives simply because of the color of their skin. All 13 organizations within the Coalition unanimously support the Coalition statement pledging to work together to take specific antiracist action to address ongoing racism in society; and address implicit and unconscious bias within hospice and palliative care delivery and the profession itself.
Coalition Executive Director, Amy Melnick, says, “As a Coalition, we commit to supporting legislative and regulatory policies that address disparities and inequities in our healthcare system. Moving forward, our Coalition is committed to working with others and acknowledging our responsibility to develop specific plans to dismantle structural racism within the field”.
