Focus is on Quality and Equity for All Patients with Serious Illness
The Coalition submitted a set of consensus policy recommendations to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) calling for a standard set of high priority quality measures for people with serious illness. These recommendations were made to apply to any payment model under consideration at CMMI that includes patients with serious illness. The Coalition believes strongly that for people with serious illness, the quality of care should not depend on the payment model. These guiding principles provide a framework for our Coalition recommendations: 1) Focusing on what matters most to patients and families 2) Addressing healthcare inequities and social determinants of health 3) Supporting a thriving interdisciplinary workforce 4) Building on the best and broadest quality measures available today or in development 5) Minimizing data collection burden on participating providers. Representatives of the Coalition will be meeting with CMMI to discuss these recommendations later this month.
