On March 26, Coalition Board President, Diane Meier, testified at a meeting of the Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) in support of the Patient and Caregiver Support for Serious Illness – a model being considered for Medicare beneficiaries to have access to palliative care delivered by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers and chaplains. The model uses the National Consensus Project, Clinical Practice Guidelines for Quality Palliative Care as a framework to deliver the essential components of high quality palliative care.
The Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) was established by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). The Committee meets publicly to review Medicare physician-focused payment model proposals, prepare comments and recommendations regarding whether such models meet criteria established by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, and submit such comments and recommendations to the Secretary.
